How to Host a Watch Party on Facebook – New Feature 2018

With Facebook’s new Watch Party feature, you can watch tons of videos and shows with members of groups you’re in on Facebook. Watch this video to find out more about this new Facebook feature!

The Watch Party feature is available for all Facebook groups. You can only host a watch party within a Facebook group you’re part of. When you start a watch party, members of the group will be notified and have the option to join in. Facebook watch parties are a great way to enjoy content together, help your group members learn new things, market products, and more. This feature can be used in a variety of ways based on the type of videos you choose to add to your watch party.

To start, open your web browser and go to On the left, click Groups. Click on the group you’d like to host a watch party in. Now click Watch Party. Click OK. Click “add a title for your watch party” and type in a name for the event. You can also add a description in the text box above. Maybe something like “come join the watch party!” Now click Add Video. Choose the video you want to watch with your group. You can browse popular videos, search for a specific topic using the search bar, or check out the various tabs at the top of the window to choose from videos you’ve already watched, videos posted within your group, ongoing live streams, videos you’ve saved, and suggested videos Facebook thinks you might like. When you see a video you want to add to your watch party, click Add to Queue. You can add more than one video if you want to keep your watch party going longer. When you’re finished adding videos, click Done.

When you’re ready to start your watch party, click Post. Members of your group will be notified that a watch party is starting. You can see profile pictures of the people watching in the bottom left corner. Group members that are viewing can react to the video using the reactions at the bottom of the screen, and add comments on the right. If you decide you want to add more videos to your watch party when you’ve already started, click Add Video to access the window to add additional videos to your queue. If you want to end the watch party before the end of the video you’re viewing with your group, click End Watch Party. To confirm, click End.

When your watch party ends, members of your group will no longer be able to view your watch party or access any of the comments that may have been added, but links to any videos that were watched will be added to the watch party post in your group so that anyone who missed out on the watch party can watch the videos themselves later.

  9. Thank you so much for this. I have been trying to figure this out and I believe this was the piece I was missing. I have a question maybe you could help me with. I had previously ordered a beauty kit to learn a service and an email that included a link was sent to me saying when the course would be available to view. It also indicated that if I was unable to view at that Fb live time it would be available for me to watch for 24 hours then it would disappear. My question is how was a fb link created prior to going live? Example my kit was purchased 11/1/19 the fb live course regarding how to use the kit wasn’t until 11/18 but I already had the direct link. I’m asking because I want to do something similar for a course I want to teach in the future and I thought this was a cool feature vs using zoom.
